A man from a nearby town died after riding his all-terrain vehicle off a cliff Sunday.

The man, about 35 years old, had left his home with his ATV around 1 p.m. Sunday for the O&G Quarry on Salem Road. When he didn't return home, a friend went looking for him. The friend called police at about 9 p.m.

Fire Chief Robert J. Chatfield said firefighters located the man, about 35-40 feet below a steep cliff, with "thousands of jagged rocks" in the bottom. There was nothing they could do.
