	Fatal Accident Summaries for 2007

The body of a Stamford man was recovered this morning after an apparent drowning in a Deep River pond.

State police identified the 22-year-old graduated from UConn just two months ago earning five undergraduate degrees and five minors in his five years at the university.

Rescuers were called to Blakeslee Pond near Bahr Road around 1:00 a.m. A group of people went swimming to cool off, but one man went missing.

"This is an old gravel pit and there's a bunch of lakes from the gravel pit," Tim Ballantyne, Deep River Fire Department, said.

The victim’s body was recovered around 3:00 a.m. about 15 to 20 feet from shore.

Police tell News Channel 8 members of the group waited a while before calling them to report what happened. They are not sure right now why they waited.

"He'd been missing for some time before we got called out," Ballantyne said.

The words 'Keep Out' are spray painted in black letters on concrete barriers leading to the area. There are also metal fences blocking off access.
