A young Appleton, Minn., man drowned in a flooded gravel pit south of Boyd, Minn., while swimming with friends, the Lac qui Parle County sheriff's office reported Monday. Authorities said they were called about 4:25 p.m. Sunday and found the body of Matthew Dion Sherod, 20, about 90 minutes later in water 14 feet to 20 feet deep. (Source: Associated Press)
