Man Swimming In Quarry Drowns

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- A man swimming in a quarry with friends drowned Sunday, conservation officers said.

Friends told Indiana Conservation officers that they did not hear Pete F. Chitwood, 40, of Bloomington struggling, but just noticed he was missing. They searched underwater and on land for Chitwood, whom they said was a good swimmer, for several minutes before calling authorities, officers said. Divers recovered Chitwood's body in 20 feet of water almost two hours after he was reported missing. Conservation officer Kerry Griffith said the friends were drinking, but did not know if alcohol contributed to the drowning. (Source: IndyChannel.com)
