"Near Miss" Accident Information File

A Ledgeview, Wisc., man was hospitalized after he fell about 80 feet into a former quarry behind his house near Fonferek Glen County Park. A Brown County sheriff’s spokesperson said the man had facial and arm lacerations and a broken leg. The injuries were not life-threatening. Neighbors said the man knew the terrain and they expressed surprise that someone familiar with the dangers would be caught off-guard. The area has been described as having an extremely steep incline of some 80 feet. The man reportedly is the second person in less than two months to take a serious fall into the former quarry area. On May 11, a 17-year-old boy fell down a small cliff-like structure while playing paintball with a friend. He has undergone several surgeries and is making a slow recovery.
