Two charged with trespassing at Quarry
07/14/2008

Two people were cited for trespassing at Eastern Industries Quarry on Route 611 Sunday afternoon.

Pennsylvania State Police at Belfast charged Luis A. Olveda Jr., no age given, of Clifton, N.J., and Luis F. Rodriguez, no age given, of Easton, after they were allegedly caught in the quarry in Lower Mount Bethel Township about 4:30 p.m.

Last year in the United States, 31 people died while trespassing at mines and quarries, according to the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Pennsylvania DEP and the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration have joined forces with other state agencies and members of the mining community to alert the community to the dangers of abandoned and active mines through a campaign called "Stay Out, Stay Alive."
